John Bennett - Partner
John was born in Chorley (at a very early age), stayed in Lancashire until he was 14 and then moved to Manchester . At the age of 18 he went to music college in London, stayed in London until he was 23 and then moved back to the North West where he now lives on the outskirts of Preston with his wife Jacqui (flute) and his son Tom (trumpet).
At the age of 12 John
joined the Hesketh
Bank Brass Band where he chose to play the tenor trombone (God’s own
instrument) and following the move to Manchester transferred to the Urmston &
Davyhulme Brass Band (latterly The Trafford Band).
By the age of 16 he decided to “get serious” and studied privately with Peter Leary (BBC Philharmonic Orchestra) who taught him until he went to Trinity College of Music in 1978. For the next 3 years he studied with Geoffrey Lindon and Christopher Mowat (Royal Philharmonic/BBC Symphony).

After the three years at Trinity he was awarded a scholarship to study for one year at The National Centre for Orchestra Studies (Goldsmiths University – London). When John moved back to the North West in 1983 he joined the Wingates Band for short while and taught low brass at The Blackburn School of Music. It was whilst he was teaching at Blackburn S.O.M. that he met Derek Adams (founder partner) and in 1988 made a career move and joined The Music Cellar as a partner.
John still plays the trombone on a freelance basis playing in local orchestras and shows, when time permits, and very much enjoys playing 2nd trombone with the Intrada Brass Ensemble. John Plays a Yamaha 682B Trombone.
