John North - Junior Partner (Euphonium_John)
John (The 'Count') was born many century's ago in a castle in deepest Transylvania. However, for legal reasons his birth is registered just a few years ago in Preston.
His Brass career started in Morecambe with Brass lessons at school. He started his involvement with brass bands joining the Junior Band of Morecambe Band on solo Euph.
His Family moved to Keynsham (between Bristol and Bath) so he could learn to speak like a farmer. Also he became the youngest ever member of Bath Spa Band, joining at the tender age of ten
If
you look carefully you may be able to spot him
This is from 1984 when John was 'cute'.
It was around this time he started his involvement with windbands joining Avon Schools Symphonic WindBand as the youngest ever section leader (12) under the Baton of Phillip Scot. (He was playing Baritone at this time - but he doesn't like to talk about that.)
When he finished school (now a fluent speaker of farmer and bumpkin) his family moved back up north to live in Barrowford. He did A levels at Nelson and Colne College.
He was now solo Baritone with PCA Skipton Band.
Once he settled in 'Up North' John started work at the Blackburn Music Cellar as a Saturday assistant and continue to work part time throughout his studies (reading Information Systems). John was then offered a full time partnership with Music Cellar so joined in the Summer of 1993.
John continued playing Euphonium, playing with Nelson Brass then on to Longridge Band
Following the Birth of his son, Adam, John took a little break from playing.
Then John started conducting. During his time conducting Nelson Brass he took the band to many contest wins and got them promoted to the third section. At the same time he won the North West heat of the National Association of Brass Band Conductors Young Conductor Competition and represented his area in the National Finals. He also spent some time playing (and occasionally conducting) the North Cheshire Concert Band learning more conducting skills from their M.D. of the time Mark Heron.
He had a brief spell conducting Besses Boys Band (managing to get the young'uns a second at the Pontins Contest). However currently he took some time concentrating on playing and was Solo Euphonium and Bandmaster of the Blackburn & Darwen band where he met his wife, Roxanne. John plays a Miraphone Ambasidor Euphonium .
Recently John was appointed Resident Conductor for the famous and historic Besses o'th' Barn Band
When not working, playing or being 'hip sexy and magical', John can either be found in Whitby, in a Pub or under the bonnet of his second favourite lady his 1984 Corvette C4. He is a member of the Classic Corvette club (CCCUK) and American Auto Club North West
At the Music Cellar John specialises in Brass and Woodwind and Digital Pianos. He repairs both woodwind, brass and electronic keyboard instruments . He is also in-charge of the website - so if you send a general email - the chances are it'll come to him.
John's interests include marketing his own unique style of jazz guitar playing, listening to quiet, relaxing music, growing his hair and fishing (for compliments).
His favourite colour is pink!
