Matt was born on his Pappy's homestead in the one time mining town of Chorley.

  It wasn't till he was 15 years old that the sound of the Bluesman of the Ribble Delta drew his eager ears towards a musical life.

Along the way he worked from the abattoir to the reservoir, from plastic factory to paper mill, picked up a psychology degree and read a lot of Bukowski

  A strong follower of the father, the son and the holy ghost (Django, Earl and Bill Hicks) he has devoted his life to excellence in the teachings of each.

  Through musical confrontations with such jazz legends as Nat Birchall and Dave Lee he has found his 'Jazz Voice' (his first language is 'Rant' in which he is proficient in most keys and dialects).

When not playing Jazz with his Trio, Blue Moon, featuring Dave Lee's daughter Fran on Vocals, and string bass player Dave Atherton, he will be heard attempting to sneak his bluegrass meditations into the work of regular musicians.

A true mountain man, Matt has settled on his own ranch in the hills of Euxton, where he has bred feverously to form his own clan (Joe, Charlie  and William)

Matt plays an Early 80's Hofner Attilla Zola Model, A Mastertone Copy Banjo, A Dobro Hound Dog Squareneck and other stuff with strings.
